A Perfect Road Trip Chasing Waterfalls and Coastlines through Oregon, USA

My best friend and I went to Oregon with one plan: to get to the coast. Traveling with no plan might seem super stressful to some but for us, it was AMAZING. We had the whole state open for exploring! As the water creatures that we are, we were naturally drawn to water and spent most of our time chasing waterfalls, lakes, and exploring the beautiful coast. It was the best feeling to wake up and think “Okay, where should we venture to today?”. Instead of feeling stressed about having to be at a certain place at a certain time, we could explore as we pleased. I’m so excited to share this journey of a lifetime with you! The Perfect Foodie Day Supporting Black Owned Businesses in Montreal, Canada

As the city with the second biggest population in the country, Montreal prides itself on being one, if not THE most culturally diverse city in Canada. With over half of its population being made up of immigrants from all over the world, the food scene reflects more and more the mosaic of cultures the city is made up of. The BLM movement has created momentum and space for each one of us to think about what we stand for and wish to see in this world, so I took it upon myself to dig deeper and create a foodie day supporting black-owned businesses all over town. I want to thank every one of the employees and owners that took the time to share with me and let me into their places of work; I cannot wait to discover more. Scroll down to check out a few of the incredible #paoworthy spots that can feed your stomach as much as your soul while you make your way around the city!

A Perfect Day Exploring Black-Owned Businesses in Brooklyn, NY

BLM artwork

Brooklyn is home to over 2.5 million people, around 40 percent of which are African American. Lucky for me, that meant I was spoiled for choice with the amount of spectacular Black-Owned businesses to check out. I set out to the Bed-Stuy area and was not disappointed. Not only were the spots themselves amazing, but everywhere I went the people were so kind and welcoming (which is not the usual case in New York City). I had one of the best days yet since I moved to Brooklyn and I thank all the wonderful restaurant/store owners for giving me a day I will never forget! Scroll down to read about the #paoworthy spots I discovered.

Black Owned Businesses to Support in London

cool paintings on a building

As the largest city in the UK, London is home to one of the most ethnically diverse populations in the world. As such, London’s foodie scene reflects the range of multiculturalism, serving up dishes from around the globe. Despite the diversity, BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) business owners only make up 7.1% of the UK owned food and drink industry, meaning an even smaller percentage are Black owned. In recent months, it has become apparently clear that we need to work harder, and provide space for Black voices to amplify. This London themed ‘day of eating’ does just that, while enjoying flavours from around the world, exploring the hidden gems the city has to offer, and supporting Black businesses when they need it most. It’s time to put your money where your mouth is. Scroll down to check out my day in London supporting Black Owned Businesses!

Los Angeles is one of the best cities in the world for discovering hidden gem experiences since the culture is based around constantly trying the “next best thing”. In the trendy seaside neighborhood of Venice Beach you can find a couple amazing Black owned businesses but just around the corner in Inglewood and Culver City there are hundreds more to discover too. Pao intern Taylor Hanson set off to find some of these Black owned businesses in both areas last week and boy oh boy do we love what she found! The Bay Area’s food and beverage scene is pretty out of this world. With beautiful upscale restaurants to flavorful hole in the walls, specialty bakeries and cute cafes, the Bay pulls in people from near and far places. Many of these #paoworthy foodie spots are owned and run by African American entrepreneurs who are unfortunately taking the biggest hit during this Covid-19 crisis.
